Today we started math centers and the children have been exploring with shapes, attributes and creating equivalent sets. One of the kids even told me they loved the new math centers, wow!
The children are excited to learn to tie their shoes and earn their Tie King or Tie Queen crown.
The Lifetouch picture forms are going home today, picture day is Thursday, October 9, 2014. You will also be receiving your child's log in and password for Reading A-Z. I have assessed the students and have set up reading groups according to skill level. Please note that I have entered your child's independent reading level and made the books available based on my assessments. If you have a question regarding reading level, you will see your child's level when you log onto the Reading A -Z program. With each online book your child reads, he will receive points to build a robot. In the past, the children have loved the program.

We have started working in leveled groups during center time. We worked on matching voice to print and reading left to right and top to bottom. In our Fundations lesson and during reading groups we focused on sentences beginning with an upper case letter, ending with a period and the importance of providing space between words. The children read the Tt book today and brought it home to demonstrate their developing reading skills. They are so excited and proud of themselves! Have your child read to you tonight, instead of reading to them.

Parents,
It has been a wonderful start to
the school year. The children are doing
a great job learning the routines and expectations of full day of kindergarten. The kids are excited to learn and I have
already grown to appreciate and enjoy their individuality. Everyone is doing an amazing job
transitioning throughout the school day.
Academically,
we are working on recognizing rhyming words, beginning sounds, matching upper
and lower case letters. Repetitive
predictable texts are being used for directionality and matching text to voice. The children are excited and proud of their emerging
reading skills. In math, students are
working on correctly writing their numbers, counting and recognizing that a
number represents quantity.
The kids
enter and leave school with smiles on their faces.
